Budapest Partially Closed as Danube River Rises

Due to the incoming tidal surge on the Danube, Budapest Public Road (Budapest Közút) will be closing part of the lower quays of Buda and Pest in Budapest. The lower quay of Buda between Mozaik Street and Rákóczi Bridge and the lower quay of Pest between Népfürdő Street and Közraktár Street will be closed to traffic from 20:00 on Thursday. This decision is in view of the continuously rising water level in the Danube river.

Latest forecasts indicate that several sections of the lower quay in the capital may be flooded by noon on Friday. The Danube’s water level is expected to continue rising, possibly causing the river to overflow even before that time. To ensure the safety of life and property, the lower quays must be closed on Thursday evening, as reported by Index.

Effective immediately, it is prohibited to park on the lower quays. Budapest police will start removing vehicles left on the closed Buda and Pest quays to safeguard the vehicles’ integrity and protect the environment, according to information from Index.

If the water level of the Danube necessitates it, tram routes 2, 2B, and 23 along the Pest quay may operate on a shortened route in the upcoming days.
