Victory at the Budapest Pentathlon World Cup: Gulyás Claims Gold and Koleszár Silver
In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Michelle Gulyás secured the gold medal at the Pentathlon World Cup in Budapest this past Saturday, showcasing a high-caliber performance that delighted fans. Following her win, Hungarian supporters celebrated further as Mihály Koleszár claimed the silver medal in the men’s competition.
Strong Hungarian Presence
The women’s final featured a substantial Hungarian contingent, with nearly a third of the 18-athlete field representing Hungary. Gulyás’s impressive victory overshadowed strong finishes from her compatriots, including Blanka Bauer, who took 5th place, and Blanka Guzi and Noémi Eszes finishing in 8th and 12th respectively. Emma Mészáros also had a commendable performance, finishing 13th.
After the competition, an emotional Gulyás reflected on her win, stating, "The goal was to enjoy the competition and the crowd gave me great strength, that is why I could give my best in every event."

Standing on the podium in tears, Gulyás expressed that this gold marked her first major win since the Olympics, reminiscing about the emotional weight of hearing her national anthem play once again.
Competition Breakdown
The women’s event drew 70 pentathletes, who qualified in two groups of 35. The top 18 from each group advanced to the next round, with seven Hungarians competing—six of whom progressed. The top nine from Thursday’s semi-finals advanced to the final, where Gulyás excelled.
Mihály Koleszár also shined in the men’s field, securing another silver medal, adding to his earlier success in Cairo. He emphasized his focus on performance: "I did my best in every event, of course I am satisfied. It was a high-quality competition, and the uncertainty of the final results kept the excitement alive."

In the men’s qualification round, which involved 96 athletes divided into three groups, Koleszár stood out, making it to the final despite tough competition.
Upcoming Competitions
This victory sets the stage for more exciting competitions, as international pentathletes will meet for the third round of the World Cup in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, on May 7-11. Following that, the finals will be held in Alexandria from July 4-6. The adult World Championships will take place in Druskininkai, Lithuania, at the end of August, with the European Championships scheduled for the final week of July in Madrid.
As the pentathlon season progresses, both Gulyás and Koleszár’s performances signal promising prospects for Hungary on the international stage.
