BudapestGO App Experiencing Technical Issues Starting Today!

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has announced that the popular BudapestGO app will not work for everyone starting today. This is due to the new public transport tariff system that was introduced on March 1, which requires an update to align with the new rules.

According to information from index.hu, BKK stated that passengers using the app from outside Budapest will not be able to access timetables and use the journey planning feature for certain MÁV trains from today onwards.

Following the implementation of the new tariff system on March 1, Budapest passes are now valid for Intercity trains (2nd class), including MÁV-Start’s international trains. This means that passengers can utilize all trains that stop within Budapest’s borders.

BKK is currently in the process of migrating data into the BudapestGO app to harmonize it with the new system, but this transition will take some time. The developers aim to update the app to allow journey planning not only from the suburbs and Budapest but also from other regions of the country, particularly for train travel.

During this update period, passengers outside of Budapest may experience temporary issues accessing train timetables and journey planning. However, residents of Budapest will still be able to plan their journeys within the city, including with MÁV trains and regional Volán buses. BKK estimates that the app update will be completed in a few weeks.
