Building Collapse at Sakarya City Hospital Construction Site: Governor’s Office Issues Statement

A collapse occurred in a prefabricated building at the construction site of the Sakarya City Hospital, resulting in the injury of 15 workers. The incident took place at around 21:00, trapping 13 workers under the debris. Health, AFAD, fire, and police teams quickly responded to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Sakarya Governor’s Office released a statement confirming the increase in the number of injured workers to 15. The collapse was caused by a metal piece falling from the ceiling of the 3-story prefabricated building where the workers were staying. While most of the injured workers only suffered minor injuries, the treatment for two individuals is ongoing in the hospital.
An investigation into the accident has been launched by AFAD, Provincial Health Directorate, and police teams to determine the cause of the collapse. The construction of the 1000-bed City Hospital on a 300-acre area has been temporarily halted following the incident. Our thoughts are with the injured workers and we hope for their speedy recovery.
