Building Control Manager Faces Penalty for Offering Sex to Lift Demolition Order
The scandal involving Aksu Municipality’s Building Control Manager Nevzat A. requesting sexual favors from a Syrian national, Faten E., in exchange for lifting a demolition decision on her workplace has shocked the public. The incident, captured in footage that went viral on social media, led to Nevzat A. being removed from his position and arrested for corruption charges.
Prior to this incident, Nevzat A. had been accused of various corruptions, with complaints filed against him to the prosecutor’s office and CİMER. Despite findings of misconduct in Mülkiye Inspection Board and Court of Accounts reports, he remained in office. However, the footage exposed his unethical behavior, leading to his arrest and imprisonment.
Faten E. detailed in her statement how Nevzat A. coerced her into agreeing to sexual intercourse to avoid the demolition of her workplace. She recorded their conversation and handed the evidence to authorities. Nevzat A., on the other hand, denied the charges, claiming that Faten E. was the one who initiated the negotiation.
The Antalya Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared an indictment against Nevzat A., charging him with soliciting a bribe. The trial is set to begin soon, with A. facing a possible sentence of up to 6 years in prison. The scandal has raised concerns about corruption in local municipalities and the need for stricter oversight to prevent such abuses of power in the future.
