Bulgaria Ensures Hungary of Energy Transit Reliability
Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Stankov has reassured Hungary of Bulgaria’s commitment to being a reliable transit partner for Hungary’s natural gas supplies. The importance of Bulgaria in securing Hungary’s energy needs was highlighted by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó during a recent phone conversation with the Bulgarian Minister of Energy Affairs.
Szijjártó expressed appreciation for the responsible behavior of the current Bulgarian government in this matter and emphasized the critical role Bulgaria plays in ensuring the smooth transit of over 20 million cubic meters of natural gas to Hungary daily. The volume of natural gas transported through the TurkStream pipeline has already exceeded 2.3 billion cubic meters this year.
To further enhance energy security in central Europe, Szijjártó stressed the need to increase the natural gas pipeline capacity in southeast Europe. He also mentioned positive developments in the Vertical Gas Corridor project, where Bulgaria plans to significantly boost the capacity of the natural gas pipeline running through the country.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of European Union involvement in guaranteeing the energy security of the region. They pledged to strengthen regional energy cooperation to ensure a reliable and diversified energy supply for central Europe.
The news of Bulgaria’s continued support and commitment to energy transit reliability comes as a positive development for Hungary and the region as a whole.
