Büşra Çan, a prominent athlete representing Turkey, achieved a remarkable feat in the 87-kilo category at the weightlifting championship in Sofia. During the evening session on the eighth day of the championship, Büşra secured a bronze medal in the clean and jerk with her impressive 127-kilogram lift. Additionally, she placed eighth in the snatch with a 100-kilogram lift, ultimately ranking fifth with a total of 227 kilograms.
The snatch category saw Amena Eila Solfrid Koanda from Norway claim the top spot with a lift of 120 kilograms, followed by Sofie Vejsgaard Anne Jensen from Denmark and Hripsime Khurshudyan from Armenia. In the clean and jerk, Amena Eila Solfrid Koanda continued her strong performance, securing first place with a lift of 160 kilograms and a total of 280 kilograms, ultimately earning three gold medals.
The championship has been a successful one for Turkish athletes, with a total of 22 medals, including 5 gold, 8 silver, and 9 bronze. Looking ahead, national athletes Tuana Süren and Fatmagül Çevik are set to compete for medals in the women’s +87 kilo category on the following day.
