Rare Tien Shan Brown Bears Captured on Camera in Kazakhstan’s National Nature Park
A recent video captured by a camera in the Zhongar-Alatau State National Nature Park in Kazakhstan has drawn attention to the conservation of rare species. The footage, featuring Tien Shan brown bears, was shared on the Instagram page of Kazakhstan’s Forestry and Wildlife Committee on Oct. 3.
The Tien Shan brown bear, listed in both the International Red Book and Kazakhstan’s Red Book, is a large predator that can reach a body length of 2.2 meters and weigh between 135 to 200 kilograms. These mammals are typically found at altitudes between 1,500 and 3,500 meters above sea level, freely roaming among the forests and mountain landscapes.
Despite their formidable appearance, Tien Shan brown bears have a diverse diet that includes plants, berries, roots, bulbs, small prey like marmots, and carrion. This versatility in their diet contributes to their survival in various habitats.
This recent footage adds to the growing collection of rare species captured by camera traps in different reserves, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts to protect these unique animals and their habitats. The presence of Tien Shan brown bears in Kazakhstan’s National Nature Park serves as a reminder of the rich biodiversity that the country is home to, and the need to preserve and protect these majestic creatures for future generations to enjoy.
