Cameron Advocates for Closer Partnership with Kazakhstan, Positions Britain as Top Choice in Region
The United Kingdom is seeking to strengthen its partnership with Kazakhstan in various sectors including education, business, economy, energy, and climate change. This was stated by David Cameron, the U.K.’s Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, during his visit to Astana on April 24.
Cameron praised the progress made by Kazakhstan over the years and expressed excitement about the potential for further collaboration between the two countries. A historic Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement was signed between Kazakhstan and the U.K., aiming to enhance cooperation in foreign policy, security, trade, investment, energy, transportation, and other key areas.
One of the highlights of the visit was the announcement of the doubling of scholarships for young people from Kazakhstan to study in the U.K. This move reflects the U.K.’s commitment to supporting education initiatives in Kazakhstan.
Furthermore, the U.K. is among the top 10 investors in Kazakhstan, with significant investments in various sectors. British businesses have contributed to the development of Kazakhstan’s economy, creating opportunities for growth and collaboration.
Cameron emphasized the importance of exploring more opportunities for investment and business partnerships between the two countries. He highlighted the potential for British mining companies to be involved in critical minerals projects and discussed ways to support small and medium-sized businesses in Kazakhstan.
The visit to Kazakhstan is part of Cameron’s broader Central Asian tour, where he aims to strengthen partnerships with countries in the region. He emphasized that the U.K. is not asking countries to choose between different partners but rather offering opportunities for collaboration in areas such as education, climate change, and business.
