Can Vitézy Defeat Incumbent Budapest Mayor Karácsony?
Vitézy, the mayoral candidate of LMP – Greens, is gaining strong support among Budapest voters, with 52 percent backing him according to a recent poll by the Nézőpont Institute. This puts him ahead of the incumbent, Gergely Karácsony, who has the support of 45 percent of voters.
The race took an unexpected turn when Fidesz’s Alexandra Szentkirályi withdrew from the race and threw her support behind Vitézy. This move has influenced voter expectations, with 46 percent believing that Karácsony will lose on Sunday, while 42 percent still believe he will emerge victorious.
The third candidate in the race, András Grundter of the Our Homeland Movement, is expected to receive around 3 percent of the vote, according to Nézőpont.
