Canada Shows Interest in Hungary’s Aid Policies for Persecuted Christians

Tristan Azbej, the state secretary for aiding persecuted Christians at the foreign ministry, recently concluded a visit to Canada where he briefed politicians and church leaders on Hungarian development policy and the protection of persecuted Christians.
During his visit, Azbej found common ground with representatives of the Liberals-led Canadian government on certain areas of development policy. Opposition politicians, particularly from the Conservative party, showed great openness to Hungary’s approach towards supporting persecuted Christian communities.
Azbej met with Canada’s Deputy Minister of International Development and Global Affairs, Christopher MacLennan, to discuss the targets of the Hungary Helps Programme, which aims to protect persecuted Christians and provide assistance to prevent migration.
In addition to government officials, Azbej also held talks with Garnett Genuis, shadow minister for development policy, and MP Richard Bragdon, head of the National Prayer Breakfast.
Furthermore, Azbej engaged with representatives of the Canadian Catholic church and met with Auxiliary Bishop of Ottawa-Cornwall Yvan Mathieu to discuss matters related to persecuted Christians.
Overall, Azbej’s visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between Hungary and Canada in supporting persecuted Christians and promoting development policies that align with both countries’ values.
