Canada’s New Ambassador Welcomed at Turkmenistan’s Mejlis
The new Ambassador of Canada, Alan Hamson, was formally received by the Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, D. Gulmanova, on October 10, 2023. The ceremony took place in Turkmenistan’s capital and marked the beginning of Ambassador Hamson’s diplomatic mission in the country.
During the meeting, Chairman Gulmanova congratulated Ambassador Hamson on his appointment and expressed the country’s best wishes for the success of his mission in strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Canada and Turkmenistan. Ambassador Hamson conveyed greetings and well-wishes from the leadership of Canada to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The Ambassador was briefed on the foreign policy strategy of neutral Turkmenistan, as implemented by President Berdimuhamedov. He was also informed about the various large-scale programs and projects currently underway in the country. The discussion also focused on the role of the Mejlis, Turkmenistan’s parliament, in the democratic reforms being implemented. It was emphasized that the development of interparliamentary contacts would enhance Turkmen-Canadian relations.
The potential for expanding partnership in trade, economics, culture, and the humanitarian field was also highlighted during the meeting. Both parties acknowledged the constructive nature of the political and diplomatic dialogue between Turkmenistan and Canada, as well as their collaboration in international organizations such as the United Nations.
