Carob Producers Protest Marketing Issues in Cyprus
Carob producers in the Iskele Boğaz region of Cyprus recently staged a protest in front of the Carob Products Cooperative facility to highlight the challenges they are facing in marketing their products. The protest, supported by the Republican Turkish Party, saw producers pouring carob in front of the facility to express their discontent.
Hüseyin Öztörel, Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party İskele District Organization, emphasized their commitment to supporting the producers and voiced concerns about the gradual disappearance of production in the country. Bekir Bolatcan, Chairman of the Carob Producers Association, spoke about the marketing problems affecting the global market value of carob and the hardships faced by producers in the industry.
Despite efforts to find a market for carob in Turkey, Bolatcan expressed optimism that the issues faced by producers would be resolved. Ali Sanatkar, speaking on behalf of the producers at the protest, highlighted the challenges faced by the carob factory and the implications for producers in the upcoming year.
Tufan Erhürman, leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party, called on the government to provide necessary support to the producers and address the concerns raised by the industry. Erhürman also stressed the importance of preserving local production in the face of decreasing trends and increasing urbanization in the country.
The protest sheds light on the struggles faced by carob producers in Cyprus and underscores the need for government intervention and support to sustain the industry and protect the livelihoods of those involved.
