Celebrating International Landscape Day: A Message from the Chamber of Landscape Architects
Dr. Gülizar Eroğlu, President of the Union of the Chamber of the Turkish Cypriot Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) Chamber of Landscape Architects, emphasizes the importance of implementing the European Landscape Convention in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and becoming a party to the convention.
In celebration of International Landscape Day on October 20th, Eroğlu highlighted the significance of the convention in protecting landscapes at various levels and implementing planning policies to enhance the quality of landscapes across Europe. He urged managers to recognize the value of landscapes and the need for their preservation.
International Landscape Day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of landscapes and promote sustainable practices for their conservation and development. Eroğlu stressed the role of experts, such as landscape architects, in advocating for a harmonious coexistence with nature.
As the KTMMOB Chamber of Landscape Architects, Eroğlu expressed the necessity of adopting the European Landscape Convention in TRNC, citing the natural, cultural, and historical values that define a country’s identity. He emphasized the intrinsic connection between landscapes and human well-being, emphasizing the importance of preserving the unique character and identity of each landscape.
By implementing the European Landscape Convention and becoming a party to the agreement, TRNC can prioritize the protection and enhancement of its landscapes, ensuring a sustainable future for its natural and cultural heritage.
