Ceremony Honors Retired Supreme Court Judge Refiker at Courthouse

A ceremony was held today in front of the Nicosia courthouse to honor the late retired Supreme Court Judge Talat Derviş Refiker, who passed away two days ago at the age of 75.

During the ceremony, Supreme Court President Bertan Özerdağ paid tribute to Refiker, highlighting his meticulous, respectable, and gentlemanly personality. Özerdağ also mentioned that Refiker, who authored two books based on his legal experiences and continued to update them post-retirement, was a guiding figure in the legal community.

President Ersin Tatar expressed his condolences, stating that the TRNC had lost a dedicated and beloved judge who upheld the principles of an independent judiciary. Tatar praised Refiker’s contributions, including the publication of his decisions in a book, emphasizing the importance of judges like Refiker.

Following the ceremony, Refiker’s body will be laid to rest in the Nicosia Cemetery, with a funeral prayer scheduled to take place after the midday prayer. The legal community and Refiker’s family mourn the loss of a respected figure who left a lasting impact on the field of law.
