Chadian Army Receives Mentorship from Soldiers in Counter-Terrorism Exercise

NATO Allies to Conduct Joint Counter-Terrorism Exercise in Côte d’Ivoire
NATO allies, along with their African partners, are gearing up to participate in a joint exercise aimed at enhancing counter-terrorism capabilities and cooperation. The upcoming exercise, known as “Flintlock 2025,” will be held in the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), with Hungarian personnel taking on the role of mentors for the Chadian unit, as reported by Honfredity.hu.
This mentoring initiative falls within the strategic partnership agreement signed between Hungary and Chad in September 2024. The training program will cover a wide range of areas, including tactical skills, naval operations, battlefield exercises, and border-guarding operations.
The Hungarian government’s approach emphasizes the importance of addressing issues at their source, with a particular focus on combating terrorism, which is considered one of the root causes of illegal migration affecting Europe, including Hungary.
Hungary has been actively engaging with various countries worldwide through different initiatives to combat terrorism and address the challenges of illegal migration. The Hungarian Defense Forces have previously participated in the annual “Flintlock” joint military exercise organized by the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), which aims to enhance cooperation and resilience among NATO allies and their African partners in the realm of counter-terrorism.
The upcoming “Flintlock 2025” exercise will bring together over 500 troops from more than 30 countries for a two-week special operations drill starting at the end of April. The exercise will focus on global security challenges, underscoring the importance of counter-terrorism efforts and collaborative actions to tackle regional instability in West and North Africa.
The participation of Hungarian personnel as mentors for the Chadian army in this exercise underscores the commitment of NATO allies and their African partners to work together in addressing common security threats and fostering international cooperation in the security landscape of the region.
In a related development, Hungarian experts and doctors have been providing humanitarian aid in Chad, showcasing Hungary’s multifaceted engagement in addressing various challenges in the Central African country.
As preparations for “Flintlock 2025” gather momentum, the stage is set for a concerted effort to strengthen counter-terrorism capabilities and promote unity among international partners in the fight against terrorism and regional instability.
