Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty Meets with Turkish Representatives

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, recently had a meeting with representatives from the Republic of Türkiye on March 19, 2025. The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, Alparslan Bayraktar, and the General Director of the «Botaş» company, Abdulvahid Fidan, visited Turkmenistan to discuss priority areas of bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, the guests expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to strengthen fraternal relations with independent Turkmenistan and congratulated the National Leader of the Turkmen people on the holy month of Oraza. Alparslan Bayraktar conveyed warm greetings from the President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to Chairman Berdimuhamedov.

Chairman Berdimuhamedov welcomed the Turkish guests and expressed his pleasure in receiving them within the framework of the International Conference «International Year of Peace and Trust: the Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development» held in Ashgabat. He highlighted the importance of the visit in further developing and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye mentioned that the proclamation of 2025 as the «International Year of Peace and Trust» by Turkmenistan reflects the country’s peace-loving foreign policy. He also praised the valuable recommendations put forward by Chairman Berdimuhamedov during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum.

Chairman Berdimuhamedov emphasized the existing potential for productive cooperation in various sectors such as fuel and energy, transport, communications, and investments between Turkmenistan and Türkiye. He expressed Turkmenistan’s readiness to intensify partnership in the energy sector, particularly in exporting natural gas to Türkiye and European countries.

Currently, Turkmen natural gas is transported to Türkiye through Iran under the SWAP scheme. With the upcoming commissioning of a power plant on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea, there will be possibilities to export electricity to neighboring states, including Türkiye.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people assured the Turkish delegation of Turkmenistan’s willingness to consider specific proposals and support constructive initiatives in mutual interest areas.

In conclusion, both parties exchanged best wishes, expressing confidence in the further development of multifaceted bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the people of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Türkiye.
