Champion Angels Keeping Alive Association Calls for Accountability for Earthquake Crimes
The Champion Angels Keeping Alive Association has demanded that the defendants of earthquake crimes be tried for “possible intent” and has declared that the real struggle for justice has now begun.
In a recent statement released by the association, it was highlighted that 35 lives were tragically lost in the collapse of the Isias Hotel in Adıyaman following the disaster on February 6, 2023. The association expressed, “We have been tirelessly striving for justice since day one. Just over a month ago, an expert report that is crucial for the legal process was submitted to the case. This report has clearly identified the shortcomings in the building, which was the hotel.”
The statement continued, “The deficiencies, illegalities, and irregularities in the construction and inspection phases of the project, as well as the poor quality and inadequacy of the materials used, have been determined by experts. Additionally, mistakes were made, and there was a lack of documents submitted to the relevant authorities in order to obtain certain permits.”
Despite the evidence presented, the prosecution’s evaluation has so far categorized the fault at the level of conscious negligence. However, the association argues that the stolen, incorrectly and incompletely used materials, along with all the illegalities committed, indicate a possible intent.
The association emphasized that if the defendants are sentenced for possible intent, the penalty for each life lost will be multiplied and calculated accordingly. It expressed hope that the court will reach a fair result in the fight for rights and called for the defendants of earthquake crimes to be tried with possible intent.
