Chess Masters Gather in Astana for International Championship

The Kazakhstan Chess Federation, in collaboration with the International Chess Federation (FIDE), is set to host the prestigious FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Club Championship in Astana from August 1-6.

The event, which is expected to draw around 300 participants from over 30 clubs worldwide, will feature some of the top chess players in the world. Among the confirmed participants are current world champions such as Ding Liren, Ju Wenjun, Magnus Carlsen, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Hou Yifan, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and many more.

Chess enthusiasts from over 200 countries will have the opportunity to follow the intense competition as it unfolds. The World Cup will take place at the Astana Convention Center, with the opening ceremony scheduled for August 1 at the Astana Amphitheater. This ceremony will also serve as the torch-lighting event for the 45th Chess Olympiad, marking the 100th anniversary of FIDE. The Olympic Flame, which arrived in Kazakhstan from Morocco in May, will then continue on to the UAE.

The official website of the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championship has announced a total prize fund of 350,000 euros for the tournament, with 250,000 euros designated for Rapid and 100,000 euros for Blitz.

This event promises to be a thrilling showcase of chess mastery and sportsmanship, bringing together top players from around the globe to compete for glory and recognition.
