
Child Missing on the Meriç River: Heartbreaking Update

A tragic incident occurred near the Mehmet Müezzinoğlu Bridge, close to the Kum Furnace location, as two children went swimming in the river. Unfortunately, one of the children disappeared in the river, prompting the other child to seek help from those around them. Rescue teams, including AFAD, UMKE, Police, Gendarmerie, Fire Department, and medical teams, were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist in the search.
Edirne Police Chief Onur Karaburun and AFAD Edirne Director Elvan Kaya oversaw the operations, while Tekirdağ Police Department’s Sea Port Branch Directorate underwater group supervisor diver police officers also joined in the search efforts.
After an extensive search, the diver police managed to locate the lifeless body of Ege Ishak Karafidan (14) underwater. The body was then transported to the morgue of Trakya University Medical Faculty Hospital by ambulance.
The tragic incident caused distress among the child’s family who were present at the scene. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
In other news, the Ministry of National Defense announced on social media that 23 ships will be open for public visits on April 23. This event will take place in 23 different ports, allowing the public to explore these vessels and learn more about the navy.
