China Gets Ready to Celebrate the Year of the Snake

China Gears Up for Spring Festival Celebration

As reported by Xinhua News Agency, China is getting ready to celebrate the Spring Festival, also known as “Chunyun”, on January 29th this year.

Citizens all across China are actively engaged in preparations for the festival. This includes purchasing New Year goods, decorating their homes with ornaments and artistic products, and more.

2025 holds special significance as it marks the first celebration of the traditional Chinese New Year according to the lunar calendar since its inclusion in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The celebrations have already kicked off with the start of “Chunyun”, one of the world’s largest seasonal migrations. This period, which began two weeks before the festival, sees residents traveling to visit close relatives in other regions of China.

Forecasts by Chinese authorities predict a record 9 billion interregional passenger trips within the country. The majority of these trips will be made by road transport, with millions also opting for rail and air transport.

During the festive week, residents and guests in Beijing can enjoy free entry to parks and other tourist attractions, as well as travel for free on express highways to the city’s suburban areas. Traditional “temple fairs” are also popular during this time, featuring traditional dances like lion and dragon dances.

The New Year holidays in China will begin on January 28th and last for 8 days. Leading up to the celebration, preparations start a week earlier with the observance of “Little New Year.”

Furthermore, this year’s Spring Festival takes place amidst an easing of the visa-free transit policy for foreign citizens. Eligible foreigners, including citizens of 54 countries, can now stay in China visa-free for up to 10 days.

As the nation gears up for the Spring Festival, the festive spirit is in full swing, with people preparing to usher in the Lunar New Year with joy and celebration.
