CHP Leader meets with delegation led by European Socialist Party Leader
A delegation of about 30 people, including the Socialist International Honorary President and former Greek Prime Minister Yorgo Papandreou, met with Özel at the headquarters of his party. The delegation, chaired by the European Socialist Party, came to show solidarity with Türkiye and support the political efforts in the country.
After a 2-hour meeting, Özel held a private press conference with Papandreou and the President of the European Socialist Party, Stefan Löfven, as well as other members of the delegation. They discussed the recent developments in Türkiye, including the cancellation of visits to the country by the European Parliament.
During the meeting, Özel emphasized the importance of defending the interests of Türkiye and ensuring that the country’s voice is heard on the international stage. He expressed gratitude for the support from sister parties in Europe and highlighted the need for solidarity in times of political challenges.
Papandreou and Yonnec Polat, Deputy Secretary General of the European Socialist Party, also spoke about their solidarity with Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was dismissed from his position as mayor of Istanbul. They stressed the importance of upholding democracy and supporting elected officials in Türkiye.
