CHP Leader Özgür Özel: ‘I Don’t Threaten Any Opponent’ at Party Headquarters

CHP Chairman Ozgur Private Denounces Attack on Party and Calls for Unity
In a recent address, CHP Chairman Ozgur Private condemned an attack against his party and its members, emphasizing that it is not just a challenge to the CHP but to democratic values as a whole. Speaking from Ankara in front of the party headquarters, Private stated, “Today, the attack is not only aimed at us but is an affront to any political party, any political opinion, and any opponent.”
His remarks came in the wake of a violent incident in Istanbul, which he described as an orchestrated provocation against the CHP. Private rejected attributing the attack to a specific political party and dismissed any attempts to intimidate or silence the CHP. "This is not about fear or surrender. We are committed to protecting the will of the nation and asserting our rightful place in the political landscape," he declared.
Private’s statements were bolstered by the presence of significant party figures, including former CHP leader Hikmet Çetin and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş. They stood in solidarity as he reaffirmed the party’s resilience in the face of threats.
Echoing a sentiment of defiance, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, declared, “Neither murderers nor provocateurs will intimidate us. Türkiye will emerge victorious.” His words resonated with the audience, as he spoke of hope amidst adversity.
Private further assured supporters that the CHP has left fear and doubt behind. “Nobody can scare us. We will succeed together; we will protect this country against those who threaten the future of our democracy,” he asserted, inviting all democratic forces—liberal, socialist, and Kurdish—to join in a collective defense of democratic principles.
The atmosphere of the rally underscored the importance of unity among political factions in the face of violence and hostility. As the CHP navigates this tumultuous period, Private’s leadership is poised to galvanize support among its constituents, reaffirming their commitment to democratic integrity and the rule of law.
