CHP Member Cem Aydın Released on Judicial Control Condition

The legal proceedings surrounding Cem Aydın, who was under investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for a post on his social media account, have come to a conclusion at the courthouse in Aydın.

The criminal judgeship of peace has ruled that Aydın, who was summoned to testify as part of the investigation, will be released under judicial control. This includes conditions such as regularly signing in at the nearest police station and a ban on traveling abroad.

During his statement to the prosecutor’s office, Aydın maintained his innocence, stating that he does not believe his post constitutes a crime. He explained that the video in question contained statements from the CHP chairman and information from the media regarding Akın Gürlek, and he denied any accusations made against him.

Following the conclusion of his procedures, Aydın publicly claimed that a criminal complaint had been filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to statements he made at meetings being shared on the party’s official account.

Aydın’s lawyer, CHP Deputy Chairman Meryem Gül Çiftçi Binici, disclosed that eight police officers had arrived at Aydın’s residence in the morning to escort him to the courthouse without a detention order.

Binici further noted that during their time at the prosecutor’s office, they highlighted the fact that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek held a political identity due to his previous role as Deputy Minister. The investigation against Cem Aydın encompasses charges of “insulting a public official” and “targeting individuals involved in anti-terrorism efforts” related to his social media post concerning Akın Gürlek.
