Christodoulidis Persists in Targeting TRNC Economy

The Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party, Tufan Erhürman, recently took to his social media account to address the ongoing Cyprus issue. In his statement, Erhürman criticized the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, for using various means to harm the economy of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Erhürman expressed his disbelief that Christodoulides, while claiming readiness to negotiate based on UN Security Council resolutions, is simultaneously taking actions to damage the TRNC economy. He highlighted Christodoulides’ use of the property issue, law, and initiatives targeting the construction and university sectors in the TRNC as proof of his intentions.
Adding to his concerns, Erhürman pointed out a recent move by TUI, one of Europe’s largest tourism operators, to restrict tourists staying in Southern Cyprus from crossing over to the north. Erhürman firmly stated that such measures aimed at undermining relations and trust between the two sides will not be tolerated.
The growing tensions surrounding the Cyprus issue continue to impact the lives of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Erhürman’s words shed light on the complexities of the situation and emphasize the need for constructive dialogue and mutual respect in finding a lasting solution.
