Citrus Cutting Teams Association Goes on Indefinite Strike
The President of the Citrus Cutting Teams Association, Coşkun İşkey, has announced that the association has gone on an indefinite strike for the 2023-2024 citrus harvest season. The reason for this action, according to İşkey, is that the cost calculations for the season were made without consulting the union.
In a written statement, İşkey stated that the price offered by exporter unions and CYPFRUVEX Limited was considered to be low in light of the increasing minimum wage and cost of living. As a result, the association has decided to strike indefinitely, as they cannot work at the prices offered.
İşkey further argued that the union was not consulted during the cost calculations for the citrus harvest season, and that the exporter associations and CYPFRUVEX Limited made the calculations and announced the price per ton without taking into consideration the interests of the union.
Additionally, İşkey highlighted that while no offer was requested, the union made an offer that would save costs for all parties involved. Despite this, the offer was not accepted, and the union has taken the decision to strike in order to protect the rights of its members.
As the strike continues, it remains to be seen how the negotiations between the association and the exporter unions will progress in order to reach a resolution that is acceptable to all parties involved.
