Citrus Fruit Producers Left with 1.27 Million Crates

The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry (KTSO) has raised concerns about the impact of the failure to export citrus fruits this year on citrus fruit crate producers. According to KTSO, producers have been left with 1 million 270 thousand crates due to the lack of exports. Additionally, the Chamber highlighted that crate imports without customs duty have continued, and KTSO has urged for this practice to be halted.

In a recent statement released by KTSO, it was emphasized that the citrus crate production sector has faced significant challenges as a result of the decreased exports of citrus fruits this year. The statement revealed, “Following a visit by KTSO professionals, it was found that three of our member plastic crate manufacturers currently have a total of 1 million 270 thousand crates in stock.”

Furthermore, the statement addressed the issue of duty-free imports of citrus crates and called for an immediate end to the temporary importation of crates without customs duties. KTSO is advocating for measures to protect and support the local citrus crate production industry in light of these challenges.

It remains to be seen how authorities will respond to KTSO’s calls to address the concerns of citrus fruit crate producers and ensure a sustainable future for the industry in the Turkish Cypriot region.
