“City of Aghdam Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for 3rd Residential Quarter”
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new residential quarter in the city of Aghdam. The ceremony also included an inspection of the progress made in constructing a new building for the 960-seat Aghdam city school No1, the oldest educational institution in the Karabakh region, which was founded in 1883.
The residential quarter, which occupies an area of around 17 hectares, will consist of 1,239 apartments in total, with different unit sizes ranging from one to four bedroom apartments. These apartments will provide much-needed homes for people who were forced to flee their homes during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The laying of the foundation stone for the residential quarter marked yet another milestone as Azerbaijan rebuilds the city of Aghdam, which saw devastating damage during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The rebuilding process also aims to restore the cultural and historical heritage of Aghdam, which was once a prosperous and bustling city.
President Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva have been instrumental in ensuring that the reconstruction of Aghdam has been given the highest priority and progressed in a timely and efficient manner. The ongoing efforts have ensured that displaced families can return to their homes and live in a safe environment with all basic amenities.
The Aghdam city school No1 and the newly constructed residential quarter bear testimony to Azerbaijan’s commitment to raising the living standards of its citizens and further advancing the country’s socio-economic development.
