Civilians in Gaza Face Paralysis Risk

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, in collaboration with UNICEF, has made a concerning discovery. Poliovirus, also known as polio, has been found in sewage samples taken from the region, posing a serious threat to the tens of thousands of displaced people living in tent camps.
The study, which was released last Wednesday, revealed the presence of the Type-2 polio virus in the sewage samples collected in Gaza. This alarming finding has raised concerns among health authorities in the region.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza has issued a warning, stating that the detection of poliovirus in the wastewater of overcrowded tent camps could lead to a health disaster. The ministry highlighted the challenging living conditions in the camps, including limited facilities, crowded spaces, and polluted water sources due to surrounding garbage.
Blaming Israel for creating a conducive environment for the spread of diseases by restricting the entry of hygiene materials into Gaza, the ministry urged the international community to intervene and put an end to the ongoing Israeli attacks in order to ensure access to clean water in Gaza.
In response to the situation, the Israeli government has decided to administer polio vaccinations to new soldiers and units stationed in Gaza. This decision comes after high rates of poliovirus were detected in the sewage system of Gaza.
It is noted that Israel includes polio vaccination as part of its routine vaccination program, with a high vaccination rate recorded. The additional vaccinations aim to reduce the risk of infection among military personnel deployed in the region.
The ongoing attacks by Israel in Gaza have resulted in a dire humanitarian crisis, with thousands of Palestinians being killed or injured. The lack of access to essential resources such as food, clean water, and medicine has exacerbated the situation in the already devastated Gaza Strip.
International condemnation has been directed towards Israel for its actions in Gaza, with accusations of genocide being brought against the government. The International Court of Justice has ordered an immediate cessation of operations in certain areas, highlighting the need to protect the lives of civilians in the region.
