Cleaning Worker Returns 23 Million After Refusing “Haram Money”
A cleaning worker from Gölcükler District in Menderes district, Özkan Aydik, was left in shock when he discovered that over 23 million Turkish Liras had been deposited into his account through the mobile banking application on October 23. Without any explanation for the sudden windfall, Aydik promptly informed the bank and returned the excess money. Despite his efforts, Aydik was unable to determine the source of the mysterious deposit.
In a statement to the media, Aydik revealed that he kept the situation to himself initially in order to avoid confusion. However, after consulting with his family and neighbor, he decided to go public with the unusual occurrence. Following his neighbor’s advice, Aydik visited the Menderes District Police Department to report the incident.
When questioned about his decision to return the money, Aydik explained that he considered it to be “haram money” and felt compelled to give back the entire amount. Expressing his concerns about the origins of the money, Aydik emphasized his confusion over where the funds came from and where they eventually went. Despite his inquiries, the bank officials were unable to provide any answers, prompting Aydik to seek assistance from the authorities.
