Collaborating with South Korea for Cutting-Edge Projects

Samsung SDI, a prominent South Korean investor, has been making significant contributions to Hungary’s economic growth. Experts from South Korea and Hungary recently gathered in Budapest to discuss the potential for technology and knowledge transfer between the two nations as part of the Economic Innovation Partnership Program (EIPP).

The Hungarian coordinator of the EIPP program, represented by Szabolcs Szolnoki, Deputy State Secretary for Technology, highlighted the success of Hungary’s policy of opening up to the East. In 2021, South Korea emerged as the largest investor in Hungary with an investment of HUF 1,000 billion (EUR 2.5 billion), leading to the creation of 20,000 new jobs in the country. This strong partnership was further solidified with the signing of a cooperation agreement between Hungary and the Republic of Korea in April 2022.

The Deputy State Secretary emphasized that the Hungarian-South Korean program will provide Hungarian researchers and experts with opportunities to engage in scientific and innovative technological projects. This collaboration aims to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries and support sustainable economic development through policy and technical consultations in industrial innovation and competitiveness.

The Economic Innovation Partnership Program, initiated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Korea in 2020, focuses on strengthening economic ties between partner countries and South Korea. By promoting innovation industries, building infrastructure, and fostering public-private partnerships, the program aims to meet the growing global demand for development cooperation.

Overall, the discussions at the EIPP event underscored the importance of the partnership between Hungary and South Korea, paving the way for further advancements in technology and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
