“The Language of Media in Combating Violence Against Women” Program Organized in Sakarya
A collaborative program titled “The Language of Media in Combating Violence Against Women” was organized by KEFEK, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), and Sakarya University of Applied Sciences in a restaurant in the Adapazarı district. The event aimed to address the pressing issue of violence against women and the role of media in prevention.
During the program, Governor Yaşar Karadeniz highlighted the importance of leveraging the experiences of various institutions to prevent violence against women. He emphasized the need to not only address violence against women but also tackle violence in society as a whole, including domestic violence, child abuse, and other forms of aggression.
KEFEK President and AK Party Sakarya Deputy Erdoğan discussed the commission’s work in combating violence against women, particularly emphasizing the role of the media in raising awareness and promoting prevention efforts. He underlined the importance of changing the news language in the press to contribute to the prevention of violence.
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin stressed the importance of a comprehensive approach to combatting violence against women and the media’s responsibility in reporting on such issues. He also addressed the need to review and potentially remove certain programs that may contribute to harmful attitudes towards women.
Additionally, SUBU Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sarıbıyık shared information on the decisions made at a recent meeting on inter-institutional cooperation in preventing violence against women. The program also featured presentations and discussions on ethical principles in the media’s role in combating violence against women.
The event was attended by various officials, including Sakarya University Rector Prof. Dr. Hamza Al, AK Party Provincial Chairman Yunus Tever, and members of the press. The participants reflected on the importance of collaboration between institutions and media outlets to effectively address violence against women and promote a culture of respect and equality.
