Commanders sue Özgür Özel over Unacceptable Words, says MSB

Two top Turkish military commanders, Land Forces Commander Gen. Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu and Navy Commander Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, along with CHP President Özgür Özel, are set to sue in response to recent allegations.

The statement regarding this legal action came from sources within the Ministry of National Defense. During a Private Parliamentary Group meeting, Lieutenant General Tevfik Algan, Chairman of the High Disciplinary Board, raised the issue of retiring Lieutenant General Tevfik Algan after dismissing a request to expel the lieutenants.

CHP leader Özel accused the commanders of mobbing and claimed that Lieutenant General Algan’s resignation was forced.

A Ministry source stated, “The statements targeting the personalities of the force commanders and the Ministry of National Defense as a whole are unacceptable. All legal rights will be utilized.”

NTV reported that the Land and Navy Commanders will submit individual applications through their lawyers. While there will be no criminal complaints for Özel’s statements made during his speech in the Assembly, the commanders are seeking compensation for the alleged targeting of them.
