Commemorative Ceremony for National Struggle and Martyrs’ Week Held in İskele

A commemoration ceremony was held in İskele to honor the 21-25 December National Struggle and Martyrs’ Disease. The ceremony took place at the Pier in front of the Larnaca Martyrs’ Monument and began with the laying of wreaths on the monument. A moment of silence and a shout of respect followed, along with the raising of flags accompanied by the National Anthem.

During the ceremony, Infantry Lieutenant Erdoğan Ogün Güven from the Security Forces Command delivered a speech highlighting the significance of the day. He emphasized the sacrifices made by Turkish martyrs in the struggle for existence against Greek massacres on the island, particularly during the implementation of the Akritas plan.

Iskele District Governor Ertuğrul Toroslu also spoke at the ceremony, recalling the turbulent history of the island after its transfer to British rule. He described the Greeks’ attempts to expel, destroy, and intimidate Turkish Cypriots through bloody plans, such as the Akritas Plan supported by Greece to control the entire island.

Furthermore, local school students participated in the ceremony by reciting poems that reflected the importance of the day. The event concluded with a prayer for the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom and justice.

The commemoration ceremony in Iskele served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Turkish martyrs in the face of adversity and the ongoing struggle for peace and unity in Cyprus.
