
“Compasses Introduced by YSK for Voting Process”

Transparent ballot boxes and ballot papers for the upcoming 14 May elections were introduced to the press at the YSK Presidency. A representative voting booth was set up for voters to cast their ballot papers. The presidential candidates’ ballot paper lists Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in first place, followed by Muharrem İnce, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and Sinan Ogan respectively.
24 political parties and 151 independent parliamentary candidates from across Turkey are participating in the Parliamentary General Elections. The ballot paper for the elections lists the Nation Party in first place, followed by the Rights and Freedoms Party, the Communist Party of Turkey, the Communist Movement of Turkey, the Left Party, Young Party, Nation Party, Great Union Party, AK Party, Welfare Party, Nationalist Movement Party, Green and Left Party, Turkey Workers Party, Justice Union Party, Motherland Party, Innovation Party, People’s Liberation Party, National Road Party, Vatan Party, Republican People’s Party, IYI Party, Justice Party, and Victory Party respectively.
Voters will cast both ballot papers in a single envelope and are only required to affix the ‘PREFERENCE’ or ‘YES’ seal on the ballot papers. Nothing other than the ballots will be placed in the envelope. Entering the voting booth with video recorders or communication devices like phones and cameras is not permitted. The voting period will be from 08.00 – 17.00 on Sunday, May 14, 2023. If a second ballot is needed, the voting period for the Presidential election will be on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
Voters who are pregnant, sick, or disabled will be allowed to cast their votes without waiting. The chairman of the ballot box committee will take voters one by one in front of the ballot box. Disabled voters, including those who are visually impaired, paralyzed, or have missing hands, will be able to vote with the help of their relatives or other voters. Illiterate voters can only seek assistance from the chairman of the ballot box committee who can inform them about the presidential candidate or political party they prefer to vote for. It is prohibited for anyone other than the voter to enter the voting place to assist illiterate voters.
