General Assembly Concludes Current Speeches, Sets Future Agendas
The General Assembly of the Republic Assembly has wrapped up its current session after a series of significant speeches on issues affecting citizens and government decisions.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday at 10:00, during which the 2024 Fiscal Year Central State Administration Budget Draft will take center stage.
One of the key highlights of the current session was the statement made by CTP Deputy Salahi Şahiner, who expressed concerns over the lack of agricultural production in the Güzelyurt and Lefke region. He emphasized that people are experiencing difficulties in selling their produce, with no transactions happening for mandora products.
He expressed that the situation is no longer sustainable, leading landowners to put their properties up for sale. The need for immediate financial measures was underlined, with Şahiner warning that the lack of action from the government will have severe consequences.
Şahiner also raised the issue of obtaining land ownership certificates for the children of martyrs, urging authorities to address this matter promptly.
In response, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş acknowledged the challenges faced by the region, particularly in the citrus industry. He assured that efforts are being made to provide support and incentives for citrus farmers and address concerns related to product marketing.
Meanwhile, CTP Deputy Biray Hamzaoğulları emphasized the struggles in public transportation, particularly for drivers from remote villages. He urged the government to take action to address the financial difficulties faced by bus drivers.
Another noteworthy speech was made by CTP Deputy Erkut Şahali, who highlighted the lack of will exhibited by the government in various sectors, pointing out instances where responsibilities were disregarded and the welfare of Turkish Cypriot people was compromised.
In response to criticisms, Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş reassured that ongoing negotiations are taking place to address issues in the education and transportation sectors.
With the current session coming to a close, the General Assembly is set to reconvene on Monday with discussions on the 2024 Fiscal Year Central State Administration Budget Bill and the Presidential and Republican Assembly Budgets.
The General Assembly remains committed to addressing pressing issues and shaping policies that will benefit citizens across the country.
