In a remarkable twist of fate, Ebe Nilüfer, a dedicated midwife with 40 years of experience, found herself entwined in a touching familial connection just days after contemplating retirement. Born in Eskişehir and now 62 years old, Nilüfer has witnessed the miracle of life firsthand, assisting in over 3,000 births throughout her illustrious career.
In 2023, shortly after deciding to retire, Nilüfer accompanied her wife to the hospital for a routine examination. Little did she know that this visit would lead to a serendipitous reunion with her past. Her daughter, Dilara, 29, was set to marry Gökhan Güngör, a 31-year-old man whose birth Nilüfer had facilitated three decades prior. As the families gathered for the traditional asking ceremony, the realization dawned on Gökhan’s mother, Level Kızılırmak, who recognized Nilüfer from the day Gökhan was born.
Reflecting on the coincidence, Gökhan, now married to Dilara, expressed his amazement: “This is a connection that I never considered for years.” Nilüfer fondly recalled the moment, stating, “I became both a midwife mother and a chirp mother. He usually calls me ‘midwife mother’ even now.”
Though Nilüfer initially submitted her retirement papers two years ago, the pull of her profession proved too strong to resist. “I was bored at home, and when my wife needed physical therapy, I saw the chance to return,” she explained. With a renewed passion, she approached the hospital managers and resumed her vital role as a midwife.
