Continued Collaboration: Final International University and GİKAD’s ‘Green Schools’ Project with Ministry of National Education

Final International University and GİKAD’s ‘Green Schools’ Project, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education, is continuing its efforts to promote sustainability and environmental awareness in schools. This project, which began with the participation of nature enthusiasts in its first year, has now expanded to include the recognition and awarding of green schools.

Last year, the project recognized and awarded 19 schools with the prestigious green flag, out of a total of 25 schools that applied. As part of the ‘Green Schools’ project, a drawing event was recently organized to match these schools with companies that have also received the green flag award.

The Green Schools Project Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Şerife Gündüz, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. The paired schools and companies will have the opportunity to collaborate on a chosen topic and develop social projects aligned with the principles of sustainable development. This collaboration is expected to yield important contributions to education and society as a whole.

To facilitate the project, a workshop will be held on October 27th to provide training on project development. Furthermore, a competition will be organized in May, culminating in the recognition and celebration of World Environment Day on June 5th. On this day, both the green schools and businesses will be honored and awarded for their contributions.

İçim Kavuklu, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Entrepreneurial Women Association, emphasized the significance of this project in terms of environmental conservation and nurturing environmentally conscious young individuals for future generations. The project aims to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness among young people, helping them become advocates for a greener and more sustainable future.

Cengiz Uzun, the Director of the General Secondary Education Department, highlighted the ongoing support for the project from the Ministry of National Education. This support ensures the continuation of the project, following the successful completion of its first phase last year.

During the event, 19 schools and green businesses that received the green flag award were matched through a drawing process, witnessed by a notary. This random selection process ensures fairness and transparency in determining the partnerships.

The ‘Green Schools’ project, a joint effort between Final International University, GİKAD, and the Ministry of National Education, is an important initiative to promote environmental consciousness and sustainability in schools. By fostering collaboration between schools and businesses, this project aims to bring about positive change and transform society.
