Continued Response to Forest Fire in Izmir

Firefighters and forestry teams worked tirelessly throughout the night to contain a fire that broke out in a forest area in Zafer Neighborhood, Izmir. The blaze, fueled by strong winds, posed a threat to nearby residential areas, but thanks to the swift response of the teams, the flames were prevented from spreading further.

Aided by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and four helicopters equipped with night vision, the teams were able to monitor and slow down the fire’s progression. Efforts to bring the fire under control using both air and land intervention are ongoing.

In a statement shared on social media, Izmir Governor Süleyman Elban provided an update on the firefighting operations. A considerable number of resources, including planes, helicopters, water tenders, and personnel, have been deployed to combat the blaze. Elban also announced that the fires in Bergama and Foça have been brought under control, with efforts now focused on cooling down the affected areas.

The Regional Directorate of Forestry reported that the initial response to the fire was prompt, beginning just ten minutes after the blaze started. Although the fire caused disruptions to flight services at Adnan Menderes Airport due to smoke, normal operations were restored later in the evening. Additional support from helicopters belonging to the Ministry of National Defense Land Forces Command further aided in the firefighting efforts.

As the battle against the fire rages on, the dedicated efforts of the teams involved continue to protect the environment and ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
