Continued Support for TRNC by BRTK
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has voiced concerns over Armenia’s recent actions, accusing the country of purchasing weapons from Western countries and engaging in military exercises with third parties. In a statement, Aliyev expressed doubts about Armenia’s commitment to a peace agreement and lasting peace in the region, suggesting that Armenia is intentionally prolonging the conflict.
Aliyev also highlighted the strong ties between Azerbaijan and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), emphasizing their unwavering support for the TRNC. He recently met with a delegation from the Turkish Parliament to discuss bilateral relations and observe general elections in Baku.
Emphasizing the importance of the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkey, Aliyev reiterated their mutual support and solidarity. He also underscored Azerbaijan’s commitment to establishing sustainable peace in the region.
Aliyev called for amendments to Armenia’s constitution, including the removal of territorial claims against Azerbaijan, as a prerequisite for achieving peace. He criticized the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), calling for its dissolution and questioning Armenia’s reluctance to support its eradication.
Furthermore, Aliyev condemned the biased stance of certain Western organizations towards Azerbaijan, particularly the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He stressed that these actions were directly linked to safeguarding Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Overall, Aliyev’s remarks highlight the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region and the challenges facing efforts to achieve lasting peace. Despite ongoing tensions, Azerbaijan remains committed to pursuing diplomatic solutions and fostering friendly relations with its neighbors.
