SAMTAY Foundation Continues to Honor the Legacy of Suna Atun

Sunat Atun, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Mağusa Historical Research and Writing Foundation (SAMTAY) and UBP Deputy, emphasized the philanthropy of his late mother Suna Atun, which they continue to institutionalize at the SAMTAY Foundation founded in 2000 under the leadership of his parents, Suna Atun and Prof. Dr. Ata Atun.

As a family foundation where Sunat Atun and his sister Asu Atun are among the founders, Sunat Atun shared the publishing activities, cultural projects, and social service works carried out by SAMTAY Foundation. In 2022, they launched “Suna Mother’s Kitchen” to continue the philanthropic and charitable work of their late mother by providing meals to those in need.

SAMTAY Foundation, serving the public with library and cafe concepts in Famagusta and Lefke, aims to expand its services to Nicosia, Guzelyurt, Kyrenia, and Iskele regions in the 2025-2026 period. Sunat Atun stated that the Foundation has published 66 books so far to archive the history, culture, and art of the Turkish Cypriot people, with a focus on Famagusta and the general history of the country.

During an interview with TAK reporter, Sunat Atun discussed the founding objectives, activities, vision, and projects of the SAMTAY Foundation. He highlighted the significant contributions of his parents, especially the late Suna Atun, who facilitated the publication of 49 books under the foundation’s umbrella.

The foundation’s dedication to preserving the literary heritage of Cyprus, bringing forgotten writers like Sacit Tekin back to light, and contributing to the Turkish Cypriot literature with valuable publications was also emphasized.

Furthermore, Sunat Atun touched upon the social initiatives of SAMTAY Foundation, including the establishment of Suna Mother’s Kitchen, which has been providing meals to the needy since 2022. He also mentioned the foundation’s plans to establish a middle school and a university on land donated by the foundation in the future.

With a focus on education and culture, the SAMTAY Foundation continues to make a significant impact on the community through its various projects, including the recently opened Suna-Ata Atun Primary School in Famagusta.

The commitment of SAMTAY Foundation to promoting education, literature, and social welfare remains unwavering, as they strive to expand their services and outreach to more regions in North Cyprus. The foundation’s efforts to enrich the cultural landscape of the country and honor the legacy of Suna Atun through philanthropic initiatives are commendable.
