Continuing the Search for Economist Korhan Berzeg

The Gendarmerie continues its investigation into the disappearance of economist Korhan Berzeg, who went missing after leaving his home in Armutlu District for a morning walk with his dog “Tina” on June 17, 2023. Three days ago, bones, pieces of clothing, and identification and bank cards believed to belong to Berzeg were found in the rugged and densely forested area of Fındıklı Creek between the rural Armutlu and Gelgeç neighborhoods.

The Gönen Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office is overseeing the investigation, with a total of 59 personnel, including Gendarmerie Public Order Teams, Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation Teams (JASAT), an Intelligence Team, Gendarmerie Public Order Commando elements, and cadaver detection dog elements deployed to the area. Research activities are ongoing to determine if there are any other bone fragments in the region.

Korhan Berzeg’s wife Angela and daughter Nisa Berzeg have provided DNA samples, which have been sent to Istanbul for laboratory analysis. The search for Berzeg and his dog “Tina” has been extensive, with teams scouring Armutlu and surrounding areas, including neighborhoods, water wells, stream beds, and caves, but no traces have been found until now.

On August 29, “Tina” was spotted by a citizen between Geyikli and Armutlu neighborhoods and identified by the Berzeg family. The dog was found to be in good health and well-cared for, but efforts to track its movements through a GPS device yielded no results. The recent discovery of bones and personal items in the area has prompted further investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Korhan Berzeg.
