Controversy Over Crossed Out Name on Ballots in Sultangazi During Muharrem İnce’s Campaign
Controversy Arises Over Crossed-Out Candidate on Ballot Papers in Istanbul
The Sultangazi Orhangazi Primary School in Istanbul has been caught up in controversy after a photograph of Muharrem İnce was crossed out on ballot papers for the ballot box numbered 1096. İnce had withdrawn from the presidential candidacy and local reports suggest the chairman of the box put a cross against Ince’s name on the ballot paper because of this. After voters complained, lawyers from the parties and officials investigated the matter and a report on the validity of the votes was sent to the Sultangazi District Election Board. Despite having received no written response from the board, officials and representatives were assuring voters the issue had been overcome. The validity of the votes remains to be determined by the ballot box committee.
