Çorum-Amasya Highway Reopens After Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain Causes Flooding and Road Closures in Çorum

A sudden downpour in Çorum started in the afternoon and quickly intensified, causing chaos in the city. The heavy rain not only flooded houses and workplaces but also led to the closure of the Çorum-Amasya highway.

Citizens were caught off guard by the thunderstorm and sought shelter under trees and building eaves. Drivers faced difficulties navigating the streets due to the large puddles formed by the heavy rainfall. In total, 19 houses and workplaces in the city were flooded, prompting Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın to address the situation.

Mayor Aşgın reported receiving 62 reports of flooding, fallen trees, and manhole blockages following the rain. He emphasized that the city’s teams were already on high alert before the rainfall, allowing them to quickly respond to the issues that arose.

The most significant impact of the heavy rain was seen on the Çorum-Amasya highway, where the section between Figani and Köseeyüp villages was submerged due to the accumulation of floodwater. This led to the closure of the highway, causing traffic congestion in both directions. Gendarmerie teams were deployed to ensure the safety of motorists on the road.

Fortunately, construction machines were used to clear the road of water and mud, allowing it to be reopened to traffic. However, some cultivated lands in Figani and Köseeyüp villages were negatively affected by the rain, highlighting the widespread impact of the sudden storm.

The residents of Çorum now face the task of cleaning up and repairing the damage caused by the heavy rain, as they brace themselves for potential future weather challenges.
