Countdown to BIDF 2024: Hungary’s Premier International Film Festival

The Budapest International Documentary Festival (BIDF) is gearing up for its 10th edition, set to host a competition of award-winning, feature-length movies. This year, the festival aims to explore thought-provoking topics depicted in critically acclaimed films, offering a deeply artistic portrayal of reality.

The festival will feature films such as “Four Daughters” from France, Tunisia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, as well as “In the Rearview” from Poland, France, and Ukraine, both of which are current candidates for an Oscar. With 28 international jury members set to vote on 45 competing films, the festival promises to be a showcase of diverse and compelling storytelling.

The lineup includes a wide range of themes, from the resilience of the Yakut people against wildfires to the behind-the-scenes work of stuntwomen, and from the aspirations of an Icelandic village’s football team to the revelation of a buried sibling from fifty years ago. These films offer 70 different perspectives and insights, with 200 screenings across 11 cities.

One of the unique features of the BIDF is the opportunity for audiences to engage with the artists behind the films, providing a deeper understanding of the creative process and the stories being told. Additionally, all films at the festival will be available with English subtitles, ensuring accessibility for a diverse audience.

The BIDF 2024 will take place between 27 January and 4 February, with screenings at the Cinema City Mammut in Budapest and in 10 other cities across Hungary. For more information and updates on the festival, interested individuals can visit the official BIDF 2024 webpage.
