
Counting Votes Begins for UBP Party Assembly at 23rd Congress

National Unity Party (UBP) Begins Counting Votes for Party Assembly Members
The National Unity Party (UBP) has started the counting of votes to determine the members of the Party Assembly at the 23rd Ordinary Congress. Following the reelection of Ünal Üstel as the Chairman of the UBP, the focus has now shifted to selecting the members who will make up the Party Assembly.
The vote counting process commenced at 15:00 at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Sports Hall where the congress took place. According to Mahmut Özçınar, the chairman of the council, the votes cast to determine the party assembly will be sorted and counted, with the process moving from small districts to larger ones.
With 10,134 members casting their votes in the 13 ballot boxes set up during the congress, the finalization of the 70-person Party Assembly membership from 122 candidates is eagerly awaited. It is anticipated that the party council members will be announced tomorrow.
Ünal Üstel claimed victory at the congress, receiving 65.8 percent of the votes and securing his position as UBP Chairman for another two years. His competitors, Hasan Taçoy and Ahmet Melih Karavelioğlu, received 3,284 and 121 votes respectively, with 176 votes being declared invalid.
The UBP Congress also saw the election of members to various party committees, including the high disciplinary board and central audit board. The event recognized the contributions of past UBP leaders such as Rauf Raif Denktaş, Derviş Eroğlu, and Hüseyin Özgürgün, who have shaped the party’s trajectory over the years.
