Creating a Sustainable Environment for Both Sides: The Tatar Initiative – BRTK

President Ersin Tatar Pushes for a New Page in Cyprus Negotiations
President Ersin Tatar recently spoke out following the informal Cyprus meeting that took place in Geneva. Tatar expressed his efforts to establish a more permanent and sustainable environment for both sides in a constructive and comprehensive setting. He stated, “This means that a new page will be opened for us.”
Tatar emphasized the importance of delivering a better outcome for both Turkish Cypriots and Greeks in Cyprus. He acknowledged that the federal solution has not been achieved yet, and both sides have struggled to find common ground.
The President highlighted the Turkish Cypriots’ willingness to work towards a solution and expressed frustration with the lack of progress over the past 50 years. He stressed the need for a better culture of cooperation to initiate negotiations and resolutions.
Tatar proposed the establishment of a Cyprus Cooperation Council to facilitate discussions and resolutions. However, Greek leader Hrisostodulidis reportedly rejected this proposal.
President Tatar remains committed to seeking equality between the two sides to ensure fair negotiations. He believes that bridging the gap in status is essential for moving forward in the negotiation process. As discussions continue, Tatar’s determination to create a more inclusive and cooperative environment will be crucial in shaping the future of Cyprus.
