Cultural Heritage Technical Committee Celebrates Completion of Interactive Education Platform at BRTK Event
The Cultural Heritage Technical Committee Works on the Preservation of Ancient Monuments and Educational Platform
The Cultural Heritage Technical Committee is actively engaged in the preservation of ancient monuments on both sides of the island of Cyprus, while also focusing on educating young people in the field of cultural heritage. Recently, the committee organized an event to mark the completion of the Interactive Education Platform, which aims to provide information about shared cultural heritage.
The Interactive Education Platform is a web-based project designed to guide users through the visual structures of historical areas on the island. By using interactive teaching games, users can learn about these areas and their heritage, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of Cyprus’s rich cultural history.
The event, held at the Solidarity House in Nicosia, brought together Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot youth, along with representatives from the US Embassy, UNDP, and diplomatic missions. US Ambassador Julie Davis Fisher highlighted the significance of cultural heritage in shaping our identities and inspiring our future. She commended the efforts of the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee, the European Commission, and UNDP in supporting the creation of the educational platform.
Ali Tuncay, Turkish Cypriot Co-Chairman of the Cultural Heritage Technical Committee, emphasized the importance of educating young people about cultural heritage to foster mutual understanding and respect between different communities. He stressed that the Interactive Education Platform will encourage users to explore the diverse traditions and historical sites of Cyprus, ultimately contributing to the sustainable preservation of cultural heritage for future generations.
Sotos Ktoris, Greek Cypriot Co-Chairman of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, highlighted the committee’s work in protecting historical monuments and promoting peace and reconciliation through cultural heritage preservation. He emphasized the need to view differences as enriching elements of cultural heritage rather than obstacles.
The Interactive Education Platform, supported by the United States Department of State, the European Union, and the United Nations Development Programme, is a valuable tool in promoting cross-cultural understanding and safeguarding Cyprus’s cultural heritage for generations to come.
