Cyprus TMT Mujahideen Association Releases Message for Limassol Resistance
In the 61st year of the Limassol Resistance, the Turkish Cypriot Mujahideen Association paid tribute to five Mujahideen who were martyred during the struggle. The resistance, known as the “2nd Pleven Defense” in Turkish Cypriot history, marks a significant chapter in the fight for independence.
The message released by the TMT Mujahideen Association commemorated the epic battle that took place in Limassol, a historic site conquered by Turkish-Ottoman ancestors in 1570. The resistance that unfolded from February 10 to 13, 1964, showcased the bravery and heroism of the Turkish Cypriot Mujahideen.
During the resistance, the Greeks launched attacks on the Turkish region, leading to the destruction of Greek armored vehicles. The resistance, which resulted in the martyrdom of five Mujahideen, was hailed as a pivotal moment in the Turkish Cypriot National Struggle.
Despite facing relentless attacks in areas like Baglarbasi, Lower Binatli, Evdim, and Çanakkale, the Turkish settlements stood strong against the Greek forces. The bravery and determination of the Mujahideen, supported by the morale-boosting broadcasts of “Limassol’s Voice” Radio, exemplified the spirit of resistance.
As the Turkish Cypriot community commemorates the martyrs and veterans of the Limassol resistance, it also expresses gratitude to the security forces and peacekeepers who safeguard the independence and peace of the state. The statement concludes with a message of unity and determination to uphold the legacy of those who sacrificed for the establishment and protection of the Turkish Cypriot state.
