Dangerous Cracks Force Evacuation of Building in Istanbul
Residents of a 6-storey building in Bahçelievler Hürriyet Neighborhood on Birlik 1 Street have been left shaken after cracks were discovered in the columns of the building. Concerned about the stability of the structure, the residents reported the issue to the municipality, fearing a possible collapse.
Upon receiving the report, Bahçelievler Municipality immediately sent police officers to the scene to assess the situation. After a preliminary examination, municipal teams made the decision to evacuate the building in order to ensure the safety of the residents.
As a result, 7 out of the 8 apartments in the building’s residence were relocated to stay with relatives for the night. Meanwhile, one family was provided accommodation in a hotel by the municipality. The building, which was constructed in 1986, will undergo further detailed tests before a final decision is made regarding its future.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and inspections of buildings to prevent potential risks and ensure the safety of residents. Authorities are working diligently to address the issue and ensure the well-being of those affected by the situation.
